Learn how to:

  • Understand the electrical hazards that define an ESP - body current thresholds, arc flash risk, and obligations under EAWR and EN 50110-1
  • Apply the 5 safety rules in practice; isolation, proving dead, and LOTO documented to industry standard at every task
  • Read and interpret wind turbine wiring diagrams and ladder logic to analyse system behaviour and identify fault conditions
  • Build and test 24VDC and 3-phase motor control circuits, from planning through to function-tested live rigs
  • Perform insulation resistance, current draw, phase rotation, and RCD trip testing with results recorded to inspection standard
  • Demonstrate safe live working procedures with documented PPE, partnered working, and pre-energisation declarations
  • Communicate electrical fault findings clearly and in a format your engineering lead can use
  • Produce a complete evidence portfolio, including wiring checklists, function test records, fault reports, and a signed assessor observation statement, all ready for your nomination process

Additional details

Built on the same five-day methodology operators already trust, with structured theory sessions, a richer evidence framework, and documentation designed to support your internal ESP nomination process.

An Electrically Skilled Person must have relevant vocational education and adequate knowledge of electricity under EN 50110-1. This course is designed to constitute that education.

Five formal theory sessions are mapped against the ISSA framework. Every practical task produces specific evidence documents. Every technician finishes the week with a complete portfolio: independently assessed and ready to go into your nomination process.

Final nomination remains with your employer. We give your engineering lead a clean, complete evidence base to work from.

Each course is tailored to the individual, so every technician walks away with what they actually need, and what your nomination process requires.

“I recommend this training company, I had the pleasure of participating in several training courses lasting several days. Fantastic place to learn, great knowledge of the trainer, possibility of training on a fully working turbine. Thanks for the great training!!!! ”

“Last week I completed my Electrical Upskilling Course. We covered everything from wiring and fault finding to testing and safety procedures, all through hands-on setups that replicate real wind turbine generators. The training rigs were seriously impressive - a proper bridge between classroom and field.Dominic Connolly, my instructor, was outstanding - experienced, passionate, and able to make complex topics ‘click’. Wishing him and the WTS team continued success. ”

“A number of our turbine technicians recently completed training at this centre and were very impressed with the professionalism throughout. The instructors were highly knowledgeable and experienced, delivering challenging and engaging content in an approachable manner. Our team concluded the course feeling confident, well-prepared, and equipped to apply their new skills. We would highly recommend this training centre to anyone looking for high quality, professional WTG technician training. ”

“I have done plenty of courses to obtain a range of qualifications throughout my years in the industry, but got to say that WTS and Dom are doing things differently, very proactive, engagement and the meals are superb. I recommend to anyone, if you [are] thinking about it then, you should be booking it! ”
